Recently, a Stanford professor named Daphne Koller gave a TED talk in which she advocated that top universities put courses online. She argues that an online education is the only way to bring education to the masses and cites South Africa as a prime example for the stringent apartheid laws that to this day mean that there are not enough places in the universities for all applicants. The type of course platforms that can be offered online also mean that professors can employ a wider variety of teaching methodologies and curiously, interact more with their students than if they were actually present in an enormous lecture hall.
